How to open a Google Maps link in the app

  1. Copy the public Google Maps link you want to share.
  2. Paste it into the generator above and select Create App Link.
  3. Copy the generated Open-in-App URL and share it in your bio, message, QR code, website or campaign.
  4. On a supported mobile device, the link attempts the native app first and keeps the original URL as a fallback.

Why Google Maps links may open in a browser

Map links are especially useful as app openers because visitors often want turn-by-turn directions, saved places and native navigation controls instead of a browser page.

Important: A web page cannot override every browser or operating-system security rule. App installation, device settings, browser behavior and the destination service ultimately determine whether a native app opens.

Tips for reliable Google Maps app links

  • Use Google Maps’ Share → Copy link action.
  • Short maps.app.goo.gl links are supported as web destinations.
  • If Google Maps is not installed, the original map URL remains usable in the browser.

App opener vs normal link

A normal HTTPS link is universally compatible but may stay in a browser. An app opener adds a native-app attempt before the web fallback. This is useful when the best experience—playback, navigation, messaging, saved content or logged-in state—lives inside the installed app.

Need a link for another service? Use the universal Open in App generator or read the deep link generator guide.
